Spring Training Trip – Parent FAQ

Should we plan for the Spring Training Trip if we don’t yet know whether our son will make the JV or Varsity roster?

Yes. Advanced planning is strongly encouraged.

Families are advised to book refundable airfare and lodging to maintain flexibility while roster decisions are finalized. SFBBA has secured a suggested parent hotel for families who wish to stay together; however, parents are free to stay at any hotel or location of their choosing.

This trip also provides an opportunity for parent fellowship and camaraderie as we begin the 2026 season.

Is there a suggested hotel or room block for parents?

Yes. A limited block of rooms has been secured for parents and families.

SFBBA does not manage individual parent reservations and is not responsible for changes, cancellations, availability, or pricing related to parent lodging.

Can parents stay at the same lodging facility as the athletes and coaching staff?

No. Athletes and coaching staff stay separately to support team bonding, leadership development, and program culture. Parental interaction is intentionally limited.

Will I be able to take my athlete for family outings during the trip?

Generally, no. The Spring Training Trip follows a coach-directed itinerary that includes games, practices, baseball activities, and team bonding. Keeping the team together is critical to the purpose of the trip.

Do parents or families have to travel to the Spring Training Trip?

No. Parent attendance is optional. Players are supervised by the South Fayette coaching staff for the entire duration of the trip. A school-approved itinerary will be distributed once rosters are finalized.

How many games will be played?

Each team (JV and Varsity) typically plays four games total, usually one game per day following the arrival practice day.

Do we make payments in advance? What is the expected cost?

Yes. Advance payment is required to secure the lowest possible pricing.

The total current cost per athlete is $1,783. Based on fundraising completed to date, SFBBA has already offset $333 per athlete, resulting in a current player contribution of $1,450, due February 1, 2026.

If an athlete is not selected for the JV or Varsity roster or cannot attend, 100% of funds paid to SFBBA will be reimbursed.

Do the teams stay together? How many players per room?

Yes. Teams stay together. Room assignments are handled by the coaching staff, typically four (4) athletes per room.

Are there footwear restrictions at Baseball City?

YES. Baseball City enforces strict footwear rules.

NO SPIKES OR MOLDED CLEATS are permitted in:

  • Any indoor batting cages
  • Any outdoor batting cages
  • The Dining Facility at Baseball City

Players must bring turf shoes or sneakers. Failure to comply may result in removal from the facility or missed activities.

What airports can parents fly into?
  • St. Pete–Clearwater (PIE) – Closest and most convenient
  • Tampa International (TPA) – Most flight options
  • Sarasota–Bradenton (SRQ) – Useful if staying further south

Parents should plan to rent a car.

How does the team travel?

Players rally at South Fayette High School and travel together as a team. Expect early-morning departures. Baseball equipment logistics are handled separately due to airline restrictions.

Does the team play a game on the day they arrive?

No. The team practices on the arrival day. Games begin the following day.

How much of the trip is covered by fundraising?

A significant portion of the Spring Training Trip is covered through fundraising.

Fundraising dollars are applied to the overall cost of the Spring Training Trip as well as season-long operational expenses, helping offset rising costs such as airfare, lodging, transportation, and facilities.

Fundraising Impact to Date

  • Blanket Hoodies Fundraiser: $2,270 (net)
  • Chick-fil-A Fundraiser: $418

Bottom line: The more successful our fundraising efforts, the lower the out-of-pocket cost for families.

What happens if my athlete is injured or unable to play?

If cleared to travel, injured athletes still participate in team activities and meetings. If medically unable to travel, reimbursement will be based on recoverable costs.

What meals are included?

Team meals are scheduled and included. Some meals during travel days or downtime may be on-your-own. Details will be communicated in advance.

What are the expectations for player behavior?

The Spring Training Trip is a school-sanctioned event. All athletes must follow South Fayette School District policies, team rules, and coaching staff expectations at all times.

How will parents receive updates?

Parents will receive a full itinerary before departure and ongoing updates through the team’s designated communication platform.
